New AEO Application and Authorisation programme

Following the departure of the UK from the European Union, many businesses are experiencing increased costs and administration when trading with or through Great Britain.

Building on the success of the Clear Customs programme and Certificate in Customs Compliance and Trade Facilitation programme, CILT Skillnet is delighted to launch their new Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) – Application and Authorisation programme.

What is AEO?

AEO is a compliance standard issued by customs administrations in the EU to businesses involved in the import and export of goods. It gives approved businesses special status to allow their goods to pass through customs as quickly as possible. It is an internationally- recognised mark of quality that gives businesses ‘trusted trader’ status. In summary, imports and exports can be cleared through customs with fewer customs formalities and reduced customs clearance costs.

As an AEO, you could benefit from:

  • Recognition worldwide as safe, secure and compliant business partners in international trade
  • Lower risk scores in risk analysis systems when profiling
  • Priority treatment if physical controls are conducted
  • Mutual recognition of AEO programmes under Joint Customs Cooperation Agreements which could result in faster movement of goods through third country borders
  • Reduced data sets for entry and exit summary declarations (this only applies to AEO safety and security)
  • Easier access to simplified procedures
  • Reduction or waiver of comprehensive guarantees.

The Programme

This practical programme will focus on the application process for AEO and the stages involved in granting the authorisation. It will cover all aspects of the different types of AEO and the benefits of these in the international supply chain; understanding the new EU Traders Portal for e-AEO applications; and how to liaise with the relevant customs authorities throughout the application and authorisation process. The programme will involve an in-depth examination of the AEO Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), common mistakes made in the application process, and the maintenance of your AEO, once granted.

The blended programme delivered through eLEARN , CILT Skillnet’s e-learning platform.

Unit 1 consists of 3 short pre-recorded lessons and a multiple-choice question test. This unit must be completed prior to the live class-day.

Unit 2 consists of 5 lessons delivered live via Zoom over 1 class-day (10:00am – 4:00pm). A further multiple-choice question test must be completed following Unit 2.

A unique part of this programme is the 1-hour one-to-one session with the tutor; allowing participants to best apply the knowledge and skills learned to their particular business.
