How to succeed in sustainable transport services – an introduction for 2023/24.
This programme is suitable for all businesses the following industries:
• Logistics providers. (licenced hauliers RTOL).
• Own Account goods vehicle operators
• Bus/ Coach Operators.
CONTEXT
• Climate Challenge – extreme weather more often, EU (CSRD), Ireland (Climate Act, GPP, Circular)
• Opportunity for growth in logistics +91%, +250% and the circular economy (reverse logistics)
• Climate Act 2021 targets -35%, -50%, -10%, CO2
o Understand net zero for customers (differences between net zero and climate neutral)
o AQ vs CO2 (trucks vs stoves) where to focus limited time and stay compliant (AdBlue)

• Identify the opportunity for your business to retain existing, and/or secure new business
• Collate and calculate your carbon footprint: Make a start on winning tender responses

WHY
• Business case
o Fuel cost savings, carbon tax, EEOS, AFHDV grants and other fundings (grid access)

o SFBA, et al, GPP for transport, Circular Economy (reverse logistics opportunity),
• Compliance is not enough, performance is the route to growing your business (and profit)
o As once you qualify for tender you have to reduce total CO2 year on year
HOW
• Impact – calculating your carbon footprint, math is simple, GWP, leakages boundary vs scope.
o Litres, kWh and CO2, default values vs your own primary data (to kWh/Tonne-Km)
• Tendering and reporting your carbon (measured vs calculated)
o What to include WTT, TTW = WTW (understanding your customers’ needs)
o CO2/Tonne-Km to customers, to CountEmissionsEU, TK Blue / Transporeon / L&G
• Understanding your value – resourcing and pricing for primary data
o EMAS: FTAI Green; Amazon tools, DHL, Bus Eireann (e.g. for schools)
Certificate of completion: 3 question quiz after each section to check understanding, attendees must
participate in all questions i.e. 9 out of 9 quiz questions via Slido. On experience to date questions are
hard enough to aim for a 50% correct answer rate, but this is a good testing phase for exams etc later.
